Stovax
Wooden Surrounds
Hand-made to last
The Stovax range of wooden fireplace surrounds (or mantelpieces) consists
of nine classic styles in a variety of elegant finishes. All of them
are designed to fit all the Classic Fireplaces described on these pages,
but the Chatsworth, with its grander proportions and larger opening,
is particularly recommended for use with the Regency Hob Grate and the
Adelaide insert fireplace.
Every surround is hand made and finished by skilled craftsmen to bring
out the individual character of each carefully selected length of timber.
Your mantelpiece will therefore be a unique piece of workmanship -
a point of particular attraction in an age of mass-produced uniformity.
Important Note
The Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations require that, where
an open gas fire is installed, the hearth should be 2" (50mm) high
or surrounded by a 2" (50mm) high kerb or fender. Hearths with
the 4138 brass tile frame, which is ¾" (20mm) high, are only suitable
for solid fuel fires.
The highest quality timber - finished to perfection
Stovax use four high quality timbers for their surrounds, all selected
for their close, even grain and freedom from blemishes. All four come
from renewable plantations.
The wood is thoroughly kiln dried before use to prevent it warping
or cracking in the widely varying temperatures around the fireplace.
The stain finishes used are designed to enhance the character of the
wood grain and produce fine pieces of furniture that will grace the
most elegant living room.
| North American popular (Liriodendron
tulipifera) |
 |
This is a genuine hardwood which, when stained, closely resembles finest
South American mahogany, offering traditional elegance without depleting
the worlds precious rain forests. |
| North American cherry (Prunus
serotina) |
 |
The elegant, pleasing lines of its grain made cherry wood a favourite
of the great furniture makers of the 18th Century. A
rich, dark stain with a hint of red lends it a classical timeless
quality. |
| American yellow pine (Pinus
strobus) |
 |
Similar to the best quality Victorian pine, this wood is particularly
attractive when stained a rich lovely honey colour. |
| North American White Oak (Querous
Alba) |
 |
Oak has a quite a unique character and has been a feature of British
homes going back to the Middle Ages and beyond. The lightest of
stains brings out this character to its very best effect. |
